EDUCATION AND SOCIETY
Countries like Finland, Georgia, Luxembourg, and Norway rank first with a literacy rate of 100% in the list of countries by literacy rate. The Group 8 countries all have a literacy rate of 99%. countries like Chad, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso are at the bottom of the list with a literacy rate below 30%.
Education is the pillar of any society. It is responsible for the betterment of future generations. Industrialized nations constantly develop new technologies and strategies not only to alleviate or eradicate diseases, lower crime rates but also to make sure future generations have it easy. Life expectancy in developed countries is between 65 and 75 years. Whereas in impoverished nations it's a mere 45 years.
The United States is among the countries with the most people with a higher education. In a country like Chad higher education is irrelevant. You might argue that if that so those countries' populations are a collective failure. Therefore doomed to rot in poverty. Do we have a moral obligation toward these failed nations? The answer is yes. They are humans like us. They have dreams, ambitions, and hope. They live every day hoping to reach the end of the intellectual darkness someday. It behooves us to reach out to them. There is a Chinese proverb that says: "If you give a man a fish you'll feed him for only one day, but teach him how to fish you'll feed him for the rest of his life".
