German university launches MBA in travel management

Worms University of Applied Sciences in Germany is to launch a new MBA in business travel management, taught in English, this autumn. The course is offered in conjunction with the German travel managers' association Verband Deutsches Reisemanagement (VDR) and is believed to be the first course which focuses specifically on the area of business travel management rather than including the subject as part of a wider travel and tourism degree.

The two-year course will be split into two parts, one focusing on general management issues such as marketing, e-business and finance while the second will focus more on business travel management, looking at negotiation, strategic purchasing, travel technology, pricing and revenue management and distribution.

The entrance requirements are a degree and two years' professional experience or five years' experience for those without a degree. Professionals who have been awarded CTM-Certified Travel Manager status from VDR and have four years' professional experience may also apply. The MBA will involve 12 days in-class work per term and course fees are €19,600.

The deadline for applications is 15 July and an application form can be found here. Further information from the university (mba-btm@fh-worms.de) or from Karen Rätz at VDR (raetz@vdr-service.de)
