India is third most popular country to source talent

New Delhi, Jun 24 India has emerged as the third most popular country for sourcing foreign talent in the Manpower Borderless Workforce Survey. The country ranks third after China and US in the list of top 10 countries,believed to be an economic threat to other nations.

The other countries in the list include developed countries like United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Spain, France, Canada, and Poland .

Of the 26 countries surveyed (other than India), all with the exception of Costa Rica and Peru believe that the South Asian giant provides competitive threat to their own country’s ability to compete economically. Around 42% of the countries (11 out of the 26 countries) surveyed (other than India) sourced foreign talent from India.

India also has the highest share of nationals working abroad with tertiary education, reveals the report. Of the nearly 2.2 million Indians working abroad, 53% have acquired tertiary education.

The Manpower report notes that India receives the highest remittances—$27 billion from nationals working abroad. It is closely followed by China ($25.7 billion), Mexico ($25 billion) and Philippines ($17 billion).

Additionally, the survey observes that Indian employers are second least concerned (only 21% of employers) about the government and businesses not doing enough to slow the outward migration of talent.

Commenting on the trends regarding India that the survey highlights , Naresh Malhan, of Manpower India managing director said, “In India, as in most other countries, the consensus is that businesses and governments are neither doing enough to slow outward migration, nor to attract these people back to their home countries after they have left for jobs or universities abroad. While it’s true that we need to do more to keep our most talented workers, we must also consider how we can strengthen our collective employer ‘brand’ to attract more talented workers from overseas to fill our current and future talent shortages”.

Within Asia-Pacific, a concern that governments and businesses are not doing enough to slow the outward migration of talent and attract these people back to their home country, is most prevalent among employers in New

Zealand (79%). Least concerned are employers in China (8%).

Of the 1,924 Indian employers surveyed, 57% have expressed concern about the potential negative impact on the labour market from talent leaving their country to work abroad. India is the fifth most concerned nation regarding talent migration.
