Keio, French business schools to offer double MBA from 2009

PARIS--Keio University's Business School and France's prestigious ESSEC Business School have agreed to launch a double degree program in which students can acquire an MBA from both schools in two years.

Keio University President Yuichiro Anzai and ESSEC President Pierre Tapie signed the agreement Friday in Paris.

This is the first time that a Japanese business school has introduced a double degree program. Both schools will grant their MBA to students who study for one year of their two-year degree at the partner school provided they meet requirements set by the schools. The new program will start in the 2009 academic year.

"Studying in Europe has taken on a greater significance as the business world has become more multipolarized," Anzai said.

Tapie said his institution wanted to offer opportunities for the growing number of French students taking an interest in Japan.

ESSEC, or Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales, is one of France's elite "grande ecole" higher education establishments.
