
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) is the UK's independent regulator for corporate reporting and governance. Fllowing the Morris Review, the Board for Actuarial Standards (BAS was established in April 2006. The BAS contributes to the achievement of the FRC's fundamental aim of supporting investor, market, and public confidence in the financial and governance stewardship of listed and other entities, by pursuing its aim of setting high quality actuarial standards.
The FRC is seeking a full-time director to develop the strategy and vision for the BAS as well as directing the technical projects needed to implement the strategy inside this regulatory body. This will involve developing new standards and amending existing ones in response to evolving commercial practices.
The Director will:
1. Have a good grasp of the principles and concepts underlying actuarial practice.
2. Be able to contribute to the development of thought leadership across the areas in which the BAS operates.
3. Understand and incorporate the concerns of the wider community outside the actuarial profession.
4. Have, or quickly develop, a working knowledge of the main areas of law and regulations that currently affect and will affect the areas in which the standards will apply.
The successful candidate will need to be a pragmatic proven project leader, with good communication and influencing skills. He/she will need to be able to run and develop the small team reporting to him or her.
